Grass-fed Beef
Cows raised in these conditions are fed fresh grass on pasture during the spring and summer or hay during the late fall and winter. The ideal time to purchase grass-fed beef is June through November when the animals have had a chance to “finish” on lush rain-fed pastures found here in the Midwest. Grass-fed beef enthusiasts love the flavor and healthy lean taste. Corn-fed Beef
Cows raised in these conditions are raised “range-free” meaning they spend no time in a confinement or “factory farm” situation. These animals typically have access to fresh hay and grass and have their diet supplemented with corn. The corn fed to the cows is grown by the same farmer in a toxic chemical-free method. Corn-fed beef lovers don’t mind a little more fat (or “marbling” as its called in the industry) because the taste is tremendous. Corn fed beef is available throughout the year.
